BEAK>
Portishead producer and multi-instrumentalist Geoff Barrow formed the krautrock-tinged BEAK> in 2009 with two fellow Bristol musicians, Billy Fuller and Matt Williams. The band has very strict guidelines governing the recording and writing process of their work. The music for their self-titled album was recorded live in one room with no overdubs or repair, only using edits to create arrangements. All tracks were written over a twelve-day session in SOA Studios, Bristol. Also catch BEAK> at The Independent on September 7th.
Saturday, September 11 at the San Francisco Store:
Grass Widow
Grass Widow formed in 2007 and quickly received attention within the Bay Area as well as national underground press via publications like Yeti. Influenced by similarly all-female punk and post-punk acts like The Neo Boys and Kleenex, Grass Widow also notes The Move and The Kinks as major sources of inspiration, which can be heard in their three-part harmonies, complex arrangements, and odd chord progressions. On August 24, Grass Widow will release their latest full-length on Kill Rock Stars, Past Time. Also catch them on September 10th at the Cyclone Warehouse in San Francisco.
